Neil has over 25 years resource management experience within New Zealand in private practice and with central, regional and local government. His extensive experience provides an opportunity to assist many clients across a variety of project fronts, including resource consent work, policy analysis and advice, coastal management, and project management.

He takes a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and takes pleasure in applying innovative and adaptive responses to resource management challenges.

Neil has managed complex development proposals including resource consent applications, and has presented expert evidence to council hearings and in the Environment Court. He has provided advice on interpretation of Government environmental policies and statutes and their application at the regional and local level. Neil has provided analysis of Council planning strategies and District Plan changes for clients so that they understand the implications of proposed changes.

Neil maintains a keen interest in the application of strategic planning to local area planning, especially as it relates to rural and coastal management issues. He also believes in testing and challenging current planning practices, and considers that a planning paradigm shift is now overdue if we are to efficiently achieve better environmental outcomes.
