Matt has over 25 years of resource consent and development experience in private practice together with additional local government policy experience.

Matt enjoys working with clients and a diverse range of professionals to achieve a common project goal. His philosophy is simple – ‘rules have their place but I’m far more interested in outcomes’. From that perspective Matt encourages creative ideas and solutions applied to projects, with planning controls given their due regard, without being a barrier to great ideas.

Matt’s exposure over the years to a wide variety of projects and challenging planning situations provides a sound basis to apply insight into new development proposals. This runs in tandem with creative inputs from a wide variety of specialists, particularly within a team environment, which benefits all clients.

Matt has considerable development planning experience within large scale project design teams; as a manager of complex resource consent applications; and as specialist planner within the education, rural and coastal sectors together with experience within integrated land use and subdivision projects; as well as comprehensive tourism developments in New Zealand and Fiji.

His policy development experience, which provides a framework for project development work, includes; structure planning, district plan development and preparation, preparation of local development plans, coastal development strategies, non-statutory documents and public consultation.
